The
Sweethearts
Foundation

The Sweethearts Foundation Inc. (est. 2000) is a not-for-profit organisation with a strong presence locally, nationally, and internationally.

Reputation and reach

From Geelong to global stages, Sweethearts are known for their neo-soul sound, original music, and high-energy performances—appearing regularly at major festivals like Montreux Jazz Festival Switzerland, Porretta Soul Festival Italy, Summerfest USA, and multiple national festivals.

A living, evolving band

  • 25–30 young women audition each year from Geelong, the Bellarine, and Melbourne
  • Constantly evolving band as members move into professional careers
  • Real-world, on-stage experience that builds industry-ready musicians

What makes it unique

Sweethearts blends education with the professional music industry—giving members hands-on experience that’s as close to the real thing as it gets.

Origins

Founded by Ross Lipson, the program began over over 35 years ago with a group of young women playing soul music. A breakthrough invitation to the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1997 accelerated their growth. However, it soon became apparent that the demands of the industry and the opportunities that could be offered, needed a different approach and organisation. As a result the Sweethearts Foundation was formed.
